So many of the prevailing winds of popular culture are blowing in the opposite direction of the teachings of Jesus. In this 10-week class Pastor David Seabaugh clarifies our Biblical position on the hottest social issues and discusses how best to embrace the Jesus counterculture in all aspects of our lives. That means being confident in the truth of God’s word and sincerely loving everyone, regardless of their attitude toward us.
Lesson 1
The Jesus Counterculture
In lesson one we introduce the Jesus counterculture by establishing the foundational biblical principal that there are only two ways, the way of light and life, or the way of darkness and death.
Lesson 2
Who is Your God?
In lesson two we explore how we were made to reflect a god, whether it is the true God, or false gods. Whenever we go astray, we are actually following a competing god.
Lesson 3
Ambassadors
In lesson three we explore how God has made us to represent Him and we introduce a helpful way of knowing what your role is in representing God in different situations.
Lesson 4
Sabbath and Holiness
In lesson four we explore the third commandment about Sabbath. What is Sabbath? Why is it important? How can our Sabbath turn into a powerful witness of our faith?
Lesson 5
Family – The Fundamental Unit
In lesson five we explore the fourth commandment about God’s design for family, what it means to embrace this commandment and to encourage others to do the same.
Lesson 6
The Value of Life
In lesson six we explore the fifth commandment prohibiting murder. We look at the first murder in the Bible and how it shows us God’s intent for all our relationships.
Lesson 7
One Flesh
In lesson seven we explore the sixth commandment prohibiting adultery. The Bible upholds marriage, the one flesh union, and helps us to know how to reach out to those who choose to live in ways that are contrary to God’s design.
Lesson 8
Interdependency
In lesson eight we explore the seventh commandment about stealing. We take a surprising journey into creation and even slavery as we explore how God made us the “keepers” of His interdependent design.
Lesson 9
The Trust Crisis
In lesson nine we explore the eighth commandment about bearing false witness. We have a god-like power to create a reality in the minds of other people. When we misuse that power, it creates a crisis of trust.
Lesson 10
The Battle for the Heart
In the final lesson we get to the heart of the Jesus counterculture by desiring the things that God has provided for our good. When we resist discontent, we can embrace the unique life that Jesus calls us to live as His representatives.
